My Heat Isn’t Working – What Should I Do?
Posted on March 1st, 2017 by DLWPO
No family wants to be stuck without heat on a cold winter day. However, if you do run into any problems with your furnace as we all patiently wait for spring, you should follow these steps to help diagnose your heating problem — and get your system back up and running.
What to Do When Your Heat Won’t Turn On:
Check Your Thermostat.
The first thing that a homeowner should do is take a look at the thermostat. Is the thermostat set to heat? Check the batteries, too. Weak batteries may keep your heat from turning on.
Check Your Air Filter.
If your furnace’s air filter is too dirty, it will block air from flowing freely throughout your home. This may keep your home from warming up or cause your furnace to shut down.
Check Your Circuit Breaker.
Check to make sure that your circuit breaker is working properly and that you did not blow an electrical fuse. This may keep your furnace from turning on.
Inspect Your HVAC System’s Air Ducts
Are certain rooms colder than others? You may have a leak in your HVAC system’s air ducts. Check for gaps, cracks and holes that might let hot air escape.
Call a Professional
Last, but not least, give a professional HVAC technician (like our experienced professionals here at Pipe Wrench Plumbing, Heating & Cooling) a call. They will be able to diagnose your problem quickly and efficiently, so that you and your family can stay warm even on the coldest winter nights.
