plumbing knoxville | pipe wrench plumbing, heating & coolingHappy St. Patrick’s Day! Will you be celebrating with any Irish staples tonight? If you plan on cooking up a traditional St. Patrick’s Day meal for dinner, here are a few plumbing tips to help your celebration go smoothly.

St. Patrick’s Day Plumbing Tips:

  • Don’t Put Potatoes Down Your Disposal – Starchy foods like potatoes expand when they are wet. Potatoes will stick to the sides of your plumbing and cause your garbage disposal to clog.
  • Keep Stringy Veggies Out of Your Disposal, Too – Stringy vegetables can wrap around the blades of your garbage disposal, causing it to stop working effectively.
  • Throw Away Any Grease – Any cooking oil that you use to cook dinner should be disposed of in the trash, not down your drain. When cool, oil will harden and stick to the sides of your drain, causing your sink to clog and drain slowly.
  • Test Your Toilet for Leaks – If you are having friends and family over, make sure that your toilet is in good shape. Place a few drops of green food dye into the back of the tank. If the festive color seeps into the bowl of your tank (without flushing), this means that you have a leak and should give the plumber a call.
